Characters-

I'd like to introduce you to the main characters in the book
  • Mark Daniels: One of the wealthiest men in the United States. Based in Kansas City he has vast holdings in many different industries. His headquarter building there, dubbed "The Ivory Tower", is the gathering point for the group planning the secession.

  • Anthony 'Tony' Adams: Former Navy Seal and special operations veteran, now head of security both for Mark and the entire group. He rarely leaves Mark's side unless he's on business for the group.

  • Aaron Shear: An Oklahoma farmer raising corn, cattle, and a few other crops. Took over the family farm when his father died. Graduated Oklahoma State University where his roommate throughout college was Mark Daniels. They forged a friendship of trust that has lasted both their lifetimes.

  • Caleb Ritchie: Aaron's neighbor and close friend. Next to Mark, Aaron's closest friend. Always ready to help each other the two epitomize what it means to be neighbors and friends.

  • Nichole Shear: Aaron's wife, a full-blooded Cherokee that has been married to Aaron for over 25 years. Fiercely proud of her heritage she enjoys the farm life and spends time volunteering at a nearby Indian Reservation as a teacher, having been one before she and Aaron were married. They had two children together the oldest of which is a daughter, living in Chicago, and the younger one, a son, in college at Oklahoma State University.

  • Angela 'Angie' Basgall: Brilliant and skilled diplomat having served numerous previous administrations in Washington as an advisor, Director of the CIA, Director of the NSA, and Ambassador to England. She is the political expert in the group and leads diplomatic and political aspects of their plan.

  • President Jeremy Collins: After the President dies of cancer while in office, Collins, the sitting governor of Connecticut, is appointed and confirmed in a matter of a few days to be the new Vice-President. After only a little over a week in office, the new President is incapacitated by a massive stroke and Collins becomes the third President to hold the office in less than a month.

  • Dr. Sam Poyner: Advisor to the President and holding more power inside the White House than any other person. An amoral man who is nonetheless brilliant, holding numerous Doctorate degrees in varied fields and highly capable of running campaigns and getting people elected.

  • General Tom Landers: Originally Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, a highly decorated, intelligent, and respected marine. 

  • Major Sharon Dawes: Active duty military and Poyner's 'henchman'. Athletic, beautiful, and skilled at espionage and counter-espionage, she and Poyner have a history of working together with her doing his 'dirty work'.

  • Charlene 'Shar' Davidson: Mark's girlfriend/fiancé (unofficially). She lives with Mark on his estate and even though Mark is in his mid-fifties and she is in her early thirties, they love each other and complement each others' personalities.

  • General Harold Mays (ret): Retired Air Force General and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs before Landers. Mays has been picked to head the Coalition military.

  • William (Bill) Allister: Good friend of Mark's and partner in several business ventures. Also a billionaire making his fortune in the communications and technology industries. The third member of the group planning the secession.

  • Santeago 'Sandy' Manuel DeSoto: Fourth member of the group, another billionaire having made his fortune in the oil and gas industry in Texas, Oklahoma, and Mexico.

  • Marilyn Conyers: Fifth and final member of the group, grandmotherly in appearance and age, her wealth was made in the agriculture industries throughout the Midwest but mostly in the Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma areas.

  • Marjorie Galashaw-Brown: Comes into play in the last part of the book, the Governor of Arkansas who is elected by her fellow governors to be the spokesperson for the seceded states and early on in the second book is elected President of the new coalition.
